Katrin is a pharmacist and received her PhD in Pharmaceutical Biology by the University of Bonn for her investigations on the inhibition of human glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD65kDa and GAD67kDa) by methylopyridoxin, an antivitamin B6. She stayed at the university before she joined Memorec, a small biotech Company located in Cologne (later part of Miltenyi Biotec) where she worked as research project manager in the field of gene expression. In 2005 she joined the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) in Bonn as a quality assessor in the Pharmaceutical Biotech and Inspections group.
