Joseph Briggs

Joseph Briggs, Ph.D. is a COVID-19 Molecular EUA Team Lead in the Division of Microbiology Devices (DMD), Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He is a subject matter expert (SME) for next generation sequencing (NGS) with over 20 years of experience in molecular assay development. During this pandemic his teams have overseen review of hundreds of molecular EUA submissions. He received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2005 and subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. After joining the University of Maryland, College Park as a faculty member, he joined the FDA as a scientific reviewer in 2018.
