Carl Jone

Carl Jone began his interest in proteins at the EMBL (European Molecular Biology Laboratory) in Germany before moving to Japan where he obtained his doctorate in protein chemistry at the Science University in Tokyo. Over the last 30 years he has had an international career in the biopharma industry working in Japan, Australia and Europe – at Giba-Geigy (now Novartis), GSK, Serono, Merck and UCB.
A common thread throughout his career has been the development of methods to better understand protein characteristics and how this knowledge can be translated into a commercial QC setting. This journey has included looking at relationships between protein structure and clinical outcomes, identification of novel post-translational modifications, and developing “QC-able” Higher Order Structure methods.
He now works as an independent consultant providing advice on CMC analytical development of biologics.
