Johann Holzmann holds a PhD in biochemistry from the Technical University of Vienna. In his post-doctoral training at the Institute of Molecular Pathology in Vienna, Johann studied the dynamics of protein complexes during the cell cycle using mass spectrometry. In 2011 he joined Novartis as a Labhead responsible for the development of analytical assays used to characterize biologics and used to establish analytical similarity. In 2016 Johann took over the responsibility of the analytical characterization department and in this function he had the oversight of the demonstration of analytical similarity for many of Novartis’ biosimilar programs. In 2020 he moved into a position in regulatory to widen his horizon and to follow his passion in interacting with regulatory bodies. Johann has published 25 articles in peer-reviewed journals, holds several patents and is particularly keen on understanding the structure-function relationship of biologics.
