Varnika Roy, PhD, works as a Director, Global Head of Bioassays Development in GlaxoSmithKline GSK-Vaccines based in Rockville, MD, USA since 2017. In addition, as CMC Team Lead, prior to this role Varnika global early and late stage CMC teams for mRNA and subunit recombinant protein vaccine development and took products through Phase 1-3 of clinical development . Before joining GSK, Varnika was a Senior Scientist at MedImmune (Astrazeneca) in the Cell Culture and Fermentation Sciences department. There Dr. Roy designed cell culture processes for expression and scale-up of antibody-type molecules using CHO and microbial processes. She also led a CMC team for development of an antibody drug conjugate and multiple academic-industrial collaborations. Varnika received a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Maryland College Park and multiple lead author publications. Varnika is currently the chair elect of American Chemical Society’s Biochemical Technology (BIOT) Division.
