Vaibhav Upadhyay

Dr. Vaibhav Upadhyay is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Dr. Krishna Mallela’s laboratory. His work focuses on understanding the structure-function relationship of disease relevant proteins. He has been working on understanding the effects of mutations in the receptor binding domain of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein after the breakout of the recent pandemic, before which he was working on understanding the structure-function relationship of dystrophin protein, implicated in muscular dystrophy disease. Specifically, he has been understanding the role of dystrophin isoforms with N- and C-terminal domain modifications in protein function and interactions. Prior to his postdoctoral experience in USA, he briefly worked at the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) at New Delhi, India with Dr. Kausik Chakraborty, where he studied the mechanism of action of HSP60/10 chaperonin family proteins. Dr. Upadhyay is a trained biophysicist who received his PhD in 2016 from the National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi, India, working with Dr. Amulya Kumar Panda. His thesis project involved understanding the effects of organic solvents on amyloid aggregation and solubilization and refolding of inclusion body proteins. His work related to doctoral thesis has been awarded an Indian patent. Dr. Upadhyay has authored 10 papers published in peer reviewed journals and 3 of his papers appear on the bioRxiv pre-print server. He also serves as a reviewer for PLoS One and Scientific Reports journals. His SARS-CoV-2 related research has been featured in the Discover science magazine.
