Thilina Jayarathne

Dr. Thilina Jayarathne is a Principal Scientist in Biologics Development at Bristol Myers Squibb in New Brunswick, NJ, where he is an expert in capillary electrophoresis and chromatography for the analytical characterization of biologics. Before moving into biopharmaceutical analytics, Thilina built a research career in atmospheric and environmental chemistry. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Iowa, working in Betsy Stone's research group before joining the Shepson Atmospheric Chemistry Group at Purdue University as a postdoctoral researcher, where he applied a range of chromatographic, spectroscopic, and mass-spectrometric techniques to quantify trace organic and inorganic compounds in complex sample matrices. His graduate and postdoctoral research included field campaigns across the United States, Nepal, and Indonesia studying emissions from biomass burning and marine aerosols, and was recognized with honors including the Lynn Anderson Award for Research Excellence and the Ballard Seashore Graduate Dissertation Fellowship. He has co-authored dozens of peer-reviewed publications that have collectively been cited more than 3,500 times.
