John Schiel

Dr. John Schiel is a Program Manager at ARPA-H leading the GIVE program and related cell and gene therapy manufacturing efforts. Previously he led major biomanufacturing initiatives at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and serving as the Federal Technical Program Manager for the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL). He has contributed to shaping U.S. biomanufacturing policy and national priorities, authored more than 50 publications and national strategy reports, edited three books, and received major federal honors including the U.S. Department of Commerce Gold Medal and the Arthur S. Flemming Award. He earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Nebraska and completed postdoctoral training at NIST.
