Basak Clements

Basak Clements, PhD is the Global Head of CGT Materials Science and Strategy at Roche Genentech, where she leads a global team of scientists and engineers to define and execute end-to-end material management processes to enable reliable supply of high quality, well-controlled materials at reduced cost to society. Her group serves the Roche/Genentech CGT portfolio including viral vector based gene therapies, cell-based gene therapies, individualized DNA/RNA-based therapeutics, and regenerative medicine assets. The group builds a robust E2E material supply for the Roche pipeline and creates a digital and analytical innovation framework for proactive control of materials. Prior to joining Roche/Genentech, Basak worked in Process Development and Supply Chain in Materials Science and Material Management roles at Johnson and Johnson (Malvern, NJ) and Amgen (Thousand Oaks, CA). Before joining industry, Basak held academic roles at Rutgers University, New Jersey Center for Biomaterials (Piscataway, NJ) as a Postdoctoral Researcher and Fellow. Basak holds BSc and MSc degrees in Chemical Engineering (METU, Turkey) and an interdisciplinary PhD in Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (University of Alberta, Canada).
